Youngsters get started with Police Project

Nine community minded youngsters* were “sworn in” as Mini PCSCOs last week after they won the chance to volunteer with their village’s PCSO. The Lockwood Primary School pupils learned at a special assembly earlier in the month that they had been chosen to get involved with environmental projects to enhance Boosbeck. The Mini PSCOs, kitted out in high visibility jackets as well as badged baseball caps, will begin their stint at volunteering by doing an environmental visual audit of the village’s playing fields. PSCO Paul Payne who co-ordinated the scheme said: “We held interviews at Lockwood Primary back in February and over 100 pupils wanted to be a Mini PCSO. The first nine pupils are raring to go and we will be looking at issues which are important to the community such as dog fouling, litter and graffiti. “As we go through the school year, we’ll take on other volunteers so that all those who want to take part  get the chance to do so.”
