Birthday Celebrations for the Aquafit Group

The Guisborough Aquafit Group, formed in 2001, recently celebrated its 10th birthday. A coffee morning was held at the Guisborough Pool on May 12th as part of the birthday celebrations. Quita Owen told Coastal View: “We started in 2001 with 17 of us, and never  dreamed that we would still be around 10 years later with over 150 registered members. “It was a very successful morning and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We didn’t  count the numbers, but members past and present came from all over the borough, and beyond, to celebrate, and at times it was almost standing room only!” The centrepiece was of course a very special birthday cake, baked and decorated by two sisters, Barbara Husband of Guisborough and Carol Leonard of Marske. Barbara, who is also Chairman of the Club, made a delicious rich fruit cake, which was then iced and decorated by Carol to look like a swimming pool, complete with diving board, towels, and little figures in the ‘water’ doing their exercises. Other members baked, and provided a wonderful selection of prizes for the tombola stall, and there was also a mini plant stall. Altogether £300 was raised for Zoe’s Place, far more than the group had hoped for, so everyone was delighted. Quita  said:”Grateful thanks to Tees Valley Leisure, and of course the staff at Guisborough Pool for all their support and help, both on the day, and over the last 10 years. It made a lovely celebration for us.”
