Folk music, song and dance is a most important legacy from our rich and diverse rural heritage and for the fi rst time Heritage Skills is to be included at the Saltburn International Festival of Folk Music, Dance and Song. This will include a series of taster workshops covering a wide range of heritage skills crafts eg willow weaving, woodcarving and coopering plus much more. All weekend you will also be able to visit Artsbank, Milton Street and view the exhibition ‘Yorkshire Craftsmen at Work’ by David Morgan. Free entry. Many traditional crafts have either disappeared or are in danger of dying out. The reasons for this could be the lack of craftsmen to pass on their talents or the fact that these sorts of crafts tend to not pay a sustainable wage. Heritage Skills Saltburn has been formed to enable anyone to participate in small workshops and help to keep these skills alive.
