Loftus Town Council

Blooming lovely

After another terrible winter the gardeners amongst us have no doubt been relieved to get out and enjoy working in the garden. Loftus Town Council therefore has pleasure in  inviting all residents of Loftus Parish to enter the annual In Bloom competition. Entry is free, and the categories this year are:- 1. Best front garden 2. Best rear garden 3. Best window box, hanging basket or container. 4. Best new entrant 5. Best Community Project 6. Best Commercial Enterprise Judging will take place on the 21st July (weather permitting), and will be by a panel including some Loftus Town Councillors and community representatives. You are welcome to enter as many categories as you like – there will also  be a Town Council Shield for the overall winner and certificates for the category winners and highly commended. Last year we were delighted with all the entries and it is wonderful to see the pride our community take in their gardens. If you are interested in taking part then please pop in to the Town Council offices  (or ring 01287 641000) for an entry form. Forms are also available from Loftus Library and Skinningrove Riverside Building. Please note the closing date for entrants is the 18th July

Annual Citizen Award

Every year Loftus Town Council holds an Annual Citizen Award to celebrate those who have done that little (or lot!) extra to make a difference within the Loftus Town Council area. As always we need the community to get involved and nominate anyone they feel deserves the honour of being our Annual Citizen of the year. Please have a think and let us know if there is someone who through their work, their hobbies or simply just because they want to, have helped or inspired to make this a better place in which to live. There are no restrictions on reasons for nomination so what better way to say thank you to someone whose dedication to the community may otherwise go unnoticed or be simply taken for granted. The Town Council also presents a Young Citizens Award (under 21s) but sadly nominations for this have not been as forthcoming (although the winners have been very well deserved). We all know that there are young people in our community who deserve recognition and the Town Council would especially welcome nominations for this award. You can nominate anyone as long as they have been resident in the Loftus Town Council area (Carlin How to Cowbar and Skinningrove to Scaling) for at least 5 years and have not been a Town Councillor within the last 5 years. Nomination forms are available from Loftus Library, Skinningrove Riverside Building or at the Town Council office (01287 641000). Any completed forms should be returned to the Town Council office no later than the 22nd  July 2011.
