Marske United’s ‘Yellow Pages’ match day programme has picked up yet another national award by finishing runner up in the 2010-11 Soccer Club Swap Shop programme awards. The national award scheme, now in its 18th year, ranks clubs match day publications and accepts nationwide entries from teams playing in the Blue Square Premier League downwards. In a reversal of the 2010 result, the STL Northern League club finished second behind Blue Square South’s Chelmsford City, in a record field of 1,020 entries. Former Football League clubs Grimsby Town, Boston United and Halifax Town finished third, fourth and fifth respectively, which highlights the mammoth achievement of Marske United who have won the competition outright three times in the past. Northern League chairman Mike Amos MBE said: “Many congratulations. I suppose it’s a little disappointing to be second, but it’s still an extraordinary tribute to the consistency and excellence of your simply superb programme. Thanks again for the distinction you bring to the club and to the Northern League.” If there are any local businesses out there who would like to take out an advertisement in the programme, then please email email@example.com or call new club chairman Peter Collinson on 07736973181 for more information. Meanwhile, 2011-12 season tickets are now available to order, and further savings can be made if purchased before 1st July. Having gained promotion, prices for the 21 match league season start from £31 for under-16’s, £42 for OAP’s and £84 for adults, but rise to £38, £48 and £95 respectively, if bought after July 1st. To order season tickets, or for more pricing information, visit the club website or contact Janet Pippen on (01642) 747985. United warm up for the first division season with the following friendly fixtures: Blue Star (Thirsk) (away) – Sunday 10th July 11am; Pickering Town (home) – Saturday 23rd July 3pm; Northallerton Town (away) – Saturday 30th July 3pm; Hartlepool FC (away) – Thursday 4th August 7pm. Whilst the playing squad take a well earned rest, many of the club’s supporters are gearing up to take part in Marske United’s 3rd Annual Sponsored Walk, between Whitby and Marske-by-the-Sea on Saturday July 9th. Participants and sponsors are required for the 23 mile walk which follows much of the Cleveland Way between Whitby Whale Bones and the Football Club.
