Marske United Juniors finally get their man

It has taken Marske local Neil Atkinson four years to be persuaded to leave Redcar Town FC and set up a junior team in Marske. Due to the persistency of Marske Utd Chairman Peter Collinson, they have finally got their man. Neil is to be the manager of newly formed Marske Utd under 12s team, who will play in the Teesside Junior Football Alliance next season. Recently Marske Sports & Social Club played hosts to the 2010/2011 presentation of awards to Neil’s under 12s Redcar Town team Neil’s passion for the game and the kids he works with shone through as he had so many kind words for each of them. He said that  all of them would have to earn their places in the team with so many new faces eager to be a part of it all. Neil told the kids that they were about to embark on an amazing adventure and they

were so lucky to be part of it. “It was time for a change and if you’re going to make a change, make it for the better. We have the best facilities of any Junior Alliance Team, with  on site changing rooms, a sports and social club for refreshments after the game and  it’s great to see the support of many enthusiastic Marske residents,” said Neil. Neil added: “We have this amazing opportunity to be associated with the newly promoted First Division Northern League team, Marske Utd and for this we should all be proud.” He went on to say, “I would like to think that my teams are well known in the area as a good place for kids to learn about football and indeed behaviour in general, my teams being renowned for their commitment, attitude, respect and sportsmanship. “Bringing a new team to the community is a great opportunity for not only me and my players but also for the people and businesses of Marske and surrounding area to come together and produce something to be proud of within our community. As a long time resident of Marske I am proud of the sense of community that exists throughout Marske and would invite the whole community to support the team in any way it can. We would love to see spectators at Mount Pleasant on Sunday mornings in our seated and covered grandstand (league begins in September) to cheer on the boys, also anybody interested in getting involved behind the scenes will be welcomed with open arms as we always have plenty of roles and tasks that are required to keep a Junior Football team running. The formation of a new team is not something that comes without significant cost. The primary expense for the new season will be the purchase of a new set of goalposts appropriately sized for under 12 football. To ensure the safety of all players, Football Association approved goalposts must be purchased and these are very expensive. Other set up expenses whilst not as major, still add up to a significant sum which as a new team we need to find in order to play. The team is seeking sponsors to assist with this funding and have a number of opportunities for local businesses to get involved. If you would like more information about the sponsorship opportunities available please contact Neil, or if you simply wish to contribute please get in touch via the contact details below. Cheques can be made payable to ‘Marske United Juniors’ If you would like any further information about Marske United Juniors Under 12’s, be it offers to help out financially, become a volunteer, or indeed just to find out a little more about what they are all about then please get in touch.
