New Chairman for Skelton and Brotton

Coastal View spoke recently to Councillor Brian Briggs, who was recently elected as Chairman of Skelton & Brotton Parish Council. Cllr Briggs said: “Skelton & Brotton Parish Council was inaugurated  in 1982 and I was proud to be elected Chairman in 2002 for the fi rst time.” It is the Chairman’s duty to represent the parish at certain events. Cllr Briggs went on to say: “The opening of the BMX track in Skelton Green was my first official event and I was pleased to be there to support the new Mayor of Redcar & Cleveland, Councillor Olwyn Peters.” “We will be holding the annual produce show in August and we have recently welcomed our new Parish Clerk, Anne Marshall.” Anne has taken over from Liz Sharpe, who retired at the end of May, after serving the parish for many years. “I am very pleased to have been re-elected as Borough Councillor for Skelton and I will also sit on various committees. My wife Margaret is on the Parish Council and of course I’m delighted to say is my escort in my role as Chairman,” added Cllr Briggs, who is also the  president of Skelton United Football Club. “I work very closely with Jim Hartnett at Skelton Utd Football Club and am also involved with the town twinning with Troisdorf. We have recently acquired funding to send Jim and a group of his players over to Germany,” said Cllr Briggs.
