Start on site for £31m Redcar Leisure and community heart

AN ambitious scheme to deliver a £31 million leisure, business support and community facility in Redcar moved a step forward today when local demolition contractors, Buckler demolition, started work on site. The development, on the area between Kirkleatham  street and Coatham Road, has been well received by the public and includes:

• a new 6 lane, 25 metre swimming pool and leisure pool

• dance hall and performance space

• fitness suite and junior gym

• sports hall

• business space for small to medium sized enterprises

• community facilities.

Cabinet Member for Economic Development, Councillor Mark Hannon said: “The start of work on this development has been long awaited and I am thrilled that work is finally underway. The development will not only provide state of the art fitness, business and community facilities for the residents and visitors to Redcar but will also help to create and safeguard 260 jobs.” Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Tourism, Councillor Sheelagh Clarke said: “Redcar has been waiting a long time for improved leisure facilities and this development will help to create a real attraction for Redcar residents and visitors to the town. Detailed plans for the scheme will now be developed while the site is cleared and I can’t wait to see the new facilities start to take shape.” For further information visit www.redcar-cleveland.gov.uk/regeneration
