Local MP Ian Swales has been shortlisted for the Constituency MP of the Year award – said to be Parliament’s equivalent of the Oscars. Despite having only entered Parliament last May the Liberal Democrat MP for Redcar constituency was nominated in recognition of the hard work he has done for the local area over the past year. The nomination comes shortly after Mr. Swales was named Total Politics magazine’s MP of the Month following the takeover of the Redcar steelworks by Thai firm SSI, for which he was a passionate advocate. Following the announcement Ian said “I’m delighted to be nominated. It’s an honour to get recognition like this from your fellow MPs. However, the most important thing has to be whether I’m doing a good job for my constituents, and so far I have been overwhelmed by their support. Working hard to get the best deal for our area will always be my top priority as an MP.”
