The Well Being Centre

In this time of so called recession, as we switch on the television or pick up a newspaper (with the exception of this paper & a few others, which refreshingly highlight the positives), we are constantly bombarded with bad news. It seems as if news is only news if it is bad and all the negativity undoubtedly has a detrimental effect on the way we feel. That is why it is more important than ever to actively seek out ways to look after ourselves. There are many easy & low cost ways to enhance our well -being & improve the way we feel. More and more people are looking for ways of taking their own well-being into their hands and there are so many ways to do it. Five years ago I was introduced to Reiki (Universal Energy Healing) which to be honest was a very difficult concept for me to accept. ‘Weird’ was the actual word that I used, if I remember rightly. For those of you who don’t know about Reiki, put very basically, it involves a specially attuned practitioner, placing their  hands over a client with the intention of healing. Many years ago whilst studying counselling, I recall overhearing some fellow students talking about Reiki. They were professional intelligent people whom I trusted and I remember one of them saying,’ I don’t know how it works but it works’! Even though I trusted the people completely and knew they would not lie, I still struggled with the concept and forgot all about it until it cropped up again five years ago. The first time I experienced Reiki, I was convinced that I would not be able to feel anything. It seemed such a strange and impossible concept to grasp. The fact that someone without even touching me could create sensations, induce relaxation and healing in my body was inexplicable and at the time I needed evidence. Many people dismiss Reiki and other forms of healing because it does raise questions and often challenges our belief systems. The very fact that I was adamant I would not feel anything gave more credence to the evidence for me. After this experience, I became attuned to Reiki, a quick yet often life changing process and have used it mainly for myself and my family, and am also qualified to work with clients.

Becoming attuned to Reiki level one enables people to work on themselves and friends and family. It is also a great tool for looking after oneself. In more slightly more technical terms, Reiki is an ancient hands on healing system that benefits the body, mind & spirit. Reiki practitioners have been attuned enabling them to effectively channel the ‘life energy’ through their hands. The Reiki activates the body’s natural ability to heal itself. It is totally safe, non invasive, natural & holistic and is suitable for all. Reiki treatments are available by appointment and Reiki attunements are also available. For anyone already attuned to Reiki we hold regular healing energy shares. The groups are held on Thursdays from 1-2.30pm. Each week in the month has a different focus including a new earth healing group focusing on actions we can take to heal the earth. I’ve learnt a lot already from listening to Julie and Sushannah preparing for the group e.g. which brands are environmentally friendly and how by making a small change I can make a big difference. In our busy lives it’s easy to overlook these issues.
