Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland Labour MP, Tom Blenkinsop, today congratulated all local A level students in his constituency on ‘their great results’ and praised the work of local colleges.
Tom said “The A Level figures for local colleges serving students from my constituency area are stunning. The national improvement in A Level results with the pass rate rising to 97.8%, up from 97.6% last year are matched or even surpassed locally. Praise is due to the students at Prior Pursglove College in Guisborough where they have enjoyed a record year. A total of 213 students were awarded two or more high grades and 70% of the college’s 50 A-level courses had a 100% pass rate, with 102 A* grades.”
“The same is true of Middlesbrough College where the pass rate was 96%, at the King’s Academy in Coulby Newham who can celebrate their best ever A-level results with a 99.4% pass rate at A*-E and at the Trinity Catholic Sixth Form College where the pass rate is estimated to be 94.5%.”
“These results are a great personal triumph for every one of the young people who have qualified across my constituency, and a tremendous tribute to the quality and standards of the teaching at our local colleges.”
“Now the vast majority of our students are to pass into higher education. I wish them well. The great tragedy is that they are going up to university at a time when the cuts imposed on higher education by this government are really starting to bite. Students deserve a fair deal, and I will be arguing loudly and vigorously for fairness and proper financial support for all our students. They are the future of our country, and should not be short-changed by our present political masters.”
