A vital local bus link has been saved thanks to comments from local residents, councillors and the local MP to bus company Arriva North East. Arriva had planned to withdraw their 48 service between Saltburn and Lingdale due to low passenger numbers, but following comments from the community the bus company have been able to come up with an alternative service.
Arriva’s service 28 will now provide the link between Lingdale & Boosbeck to the Health Centre in Skelton and service 48 will continue to run from Saltburn to Lingdale but will now run via Brotton to give new links between Brotton & Skelton/Lingdale and also to help with capacity between Brotton, Saltburn and Redcar.
Speaking about the service changes, Arriva North East’s Commercial Manager Mark Ellis said “we heard what the community had to say on our proposed changes and we’re really pleased that we’ve had the opportunity to look at our plans again and come up with a better solution. The passenger use to the Health Centre in Skelton is quite low, but it’s a vital link all the same and it shows that working in partnership really does work to keep bus services running”
The changes to routes 28 & 48 will start from the 28th August and more information for the revised routes can be found from
www.arrivabus.co.uk or from Traveline on 0871 2002233.

Service 28 Middlesbrough to Saltburn via Guisborough
Service 28 will operate to a slightly revised timetable and route between Lingdale and Saltburn and will now operate via Skelton High Street and Skelton Medical Centre instead of directly along Coniston Road, to help maintain a link for local users due to changes on Service 48 (see below).
Service 48 Redcar to Lingdale via Saltburn
The service will continue to run half hourly between Redcar and Saltburn with one bus per hour extending to Lingdale via Brotton and Skelton. Hollybush Estate will still be served, however Skelton Medical Centre will now be served by Service 28 (see above).
There will be some minor timetable alterations between Redcar & Saltburn to provide a more even frequency between the X4 and 48.
