Skinningrove Bonfire 5th November 2011: The Saxon Princess, the Hero and the Dragon

The Saxon Princess, the Hero and the Dragon 2011 – Skinningrove Bonfire 2011 Skinningrove Bonfire 5th November 2011 Music on beach from 6.30pm with Fireworks at 7pm followed by Bonfire

On 5th November Skinningrove Bonfire will be marking and celebrating the Saxon finds nearby to Skinningrove Village. This will be in the form of an illuminated Saxon Princess, situated in the boat on the sea front, and on the beach a flying dragon bonfire with the Hero, Beowulf.

Archeologist, Steve Sherlock , has been leading digs in the area over recent years. The jewels and treasures which have been discovered have been presented to the community and permanently located in an exhibition at Kirkleatham  Museum. A leaflet circulated in the village includes a short introduction to the finds which is attached below.

Workshops for adults and children in Skinningrove have been organised starting from 26th October to 4th November and details are available on a leaflet (Copies can be requested from Adrian Hill contact details below).

Workshops on the beach and for children in the village have been funded by the LEADER East Cleveland Small Scale Enhancements Scheme. Workshop activities in schools have been funded through the schools and Redcar and Cleveland Council.

Drivers are advised to come early to access the car parking for spectators in Skinningrove and at Carlin How
