DURHAM CATHEDRAL
FESTIVAL OF REMEMBRANCE
On Saturday12th November, in the perfect setting of Durham Cathedral, a Festival of Remembrance will be staged by the two military charities most closely connected with every aspect of remembrance and care for the military community.
On the evening of 12th November, commencing at 7.30 pm, The Royal British Legion and ABF The Soldiers’ Charity will proudly present a concert showcasing a Military Band and excellent singers. The first was held in November 2011 and such was the outstanding success, that both Charities had no hesitation when requested to organise a repeat performance. Of especial importance this year is the 90th anniversary of the formation of The Royal British Legion (TRBL 90).
Taking part in the evening’s entertainment will be:
The Heavy Cavalry & Cambrai Band based at Catterick Garrison
The Choirs of Sunderland University and Low Fell Ladies
Soloists: Graham Danby; John Roland; Julie Pendleton; Vicky Gillory
Alasdair Hutton, narrator of the Royal Military Edinburgh Tattoo will act as Compère.
The Charities are also delighted announce the guest appearance of Consett born Graeme Danby, who, after studying at the Royal Academy of Music, has performed at the world’s leading opera houses, notably the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden and English National Opera. Graeme is currently a tutor in the performing arts department at the University of Sunderland.
Carol Malia, BBC Look North presenter and mother of two, is the much loved face of the BBC’s nightly news programme in the North East and Cumbria. Carol qualified as a journalist after training in Darlington and has spent her working life in the North East and Cumbria, on newspapers, radio and TV. Carol will read a tribute to TRBL 90 and, together with Alasdair Hutton, will read the roll of honour of the 29 local servicemen who have died in Iraq and Afghanistan since March 2003.
