Perfectly imperfect!

If you have even the slightest interest in photography, the North Yorkshire Coast or landscape art – the ‘Imperfect Impressions’ presentation by local photographers Steve Gosling and David Tarn is an event not to be missed! The talk centres around the belief that photography is about the subject more than the processes used to create the resulting image.

The talk, at ArtsBank in Saltburn, brings together well respected professionals Steve Gosling and David Tarn, in what will be a vibrant and insightful evening.

Harrogate based professional photographer and teacher Steve Gosling’s recent exhibitions in the Lake District in May and Venice in October this year were both sell outs. His work explores creative and contemporary landscapes and nature images – with this particular presentation focusing on the North East coastline around Whitby.

Steve commented “The heart of photography is to capture and communicate what I am feeling as much (if not more) than what I see at the time of releasing the shutter. If my photography speaks to the viewer on an emotional level then I have succeeded in my work”. Steve’s work has earned him not only many fans but a plethora of photographic awards.

David, who also grew up in the area and is a former pupil of Northfield School at Billingham, uses the backdrop of the North East as inspiration for much of his work. His passion began as a teenager, when he entered numerous photography competitions hoping to win equipment or money to progress his then hobby. Today, his work is sold through fine art galleries nationally and has recently been the subject of a book ‘Words and Pictures’ for which he collaborated with local writer Linda Robinson to produce a volume of images with accompanying poems.

Debbie Cockerill, ArtsBank manager said “We are delighted to welcome two of the most popular and thought provoking photographers to the gallery. This event is one of many presentations and workshops hosted by us with the focus on promoting North East talent – this sits within the ethos of ArtsBank involving people from all backgrounds in the cultural life of the area and hoping to inspire new creative minds”.

The talk will be a precursor to two one day practical workshops to be held at the same venue early next year entitled ‘Techniques of Photography’ and ‘Art of Photography’.

The evening event will be hosted by ArtsBank – more information can be obtained by calling 01287 625300, emailing  or in person at the gallery on Milton Street in Saltburn.

Event times – Thursday 10th November starting at 7.15pm
