Cleveland Ironstone Mining Museum in skinningrove is opening for visitors especially for the half term school holiday 13th February to 18th February. Hours of opening are Mon-Fri 10.00 am – 3.30pm last tour. A tour lasts around 75 minutes.
Why not also visit skinningrove beach whilst you are there, it is quiet and unspoilt.
The museum, on the site of the old Loftus mine, is not a glass case museum but a nationally important museum offering visitors an authentic underground experience led by guides. Discover the special skills and customs of the miners who helped make Cleveland the most important ironstone mining district in Victorian and Edwardian England.
Visitors come from throughout the UK and abroad, local visitors are often amazed by what is on their doorstep.
