Olympic Torch in Saltburn by Mike Morrissey

Three runners will carry the Olympic torch through Saltburn on Monday 18th June, taking it in turns from 7.50am.

The first runner arrives from Marske at the Marske Road Riding School, to be followed by the second somewhere towards the town centre and the third running down Saltburn Bank to the Ship Inn.Then the Brotton leg takes over.

Saltburn’s runners are John Pearson, of the town’s Doorways youth project, Gerry McBride, of Marske, who encourages cycling through a Middlesbrough-based scheme and Shaun Campbell, of Darlington, who is campaigning to honour the world’s first black professional footballer Arthur Wharton.

Torch organisers, who are encouraging people to “line the streets” and cheer the runners, are due to announce the order which the trio will run in nearer the date.
