St Nicholas Church, Guisborough, Jubilee Celebrations

Jubilee Service of Thanksgiving and Praise

This is a service for the whole community of Guisborough who wish to join in the celebration of the 60th Jubilee of the accession to the throne of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. Uniformed organisations and community organisations will be represented and will be replicated throughout the country during the year of our Queen’s Jubilee.

Nostalgia Events

9 June 2012 Nostalgia / WWII / Queen’s Jubilee Event – Free Entry
10.00 am to 4.00 pm in the Parish Hall, Bow Street.
The event is an exhibition of memorabilia and displays (documents, pictures, items, clothing, storyboards, etc.), from the last century, covering important periods from the life of our Queen and country, giving a sense of life, and preserving the memories, of those times, including among other things:
• The Queen’s Coronation, Silver, and Golden Jubilee periods
• WWII period
• Guisborough model railway – a layout and working model (25’ x 12’) of the   Guisborough railway before its closure in 1964.
• retro displays by Age Concern and British Red Cross
• NAAFI (get a real taste of the 1940s)
• tombola
• songs from the 1940s era provided during the day to entertain the public
• Pipe band
• Face Painting
Whether you remember the 1940s and 1950s, or just wonder what happened or it was like then, come and take a trip down ‘Memory Lane’.

9 June 2012 Apollo Choir – Tickets £5 (including glass of wine on entry)
Doors open at 7.00 pm for a 7.30 pm start in St Nicholas Church
Enjoy an evening of nostalgia, with your favourite songs from years gone by, from the Teesside Apollo Male Voice Choir, as they celebrate their 125th anniversary. They always give a performance not to be missed. Guaranteed to bring back memories (or bring a tear to the eye).

14 – 15 June 2012 Wish Me Luck – Tickets £5
Doors open at 7.00 pm for a 7.30 pm start each evening in the Parish Hall, Bow Street
For 2 nights only, a play set in the WWII period and written especially for St Nicholas Church’s nostalgia celebrations. Thrills and intrigue as you get a feel for life during those troubled times!!. Refreshments bar open.

16 June 2012 Nostalgia Social Dance – Tickets £7 (including ‘bangers & mash’)
7.30 pm in the Parish Hall, Bow Street
Enjoy a night of dancing to music of the 1940s and 1950s. Why not come dressed for the era? Whether you can dance or not, come along for a truly memorable evening. Get your ‘Ration Book’ to attend this event, which includes ‘bangers & mash’ (but bring your own drink).

14 July 2012 Auction of Promises – Entrance by catalogue (£2) or by paying £1 at the door on
the night (under 10s free)
7.00 pm in the Parish Hall, Bow Street.
You are invited to “bid” for goods or services donated not only by our Church family and local businesses, but also from businesses in the wider north east community.
