South Middlesbrough and East Cleveland Women’s Forum was formed on 3 March 2012 to raise awareness of political issues and give women a stronger voice in the constituency, increasing their contribution to local and national politics and to help bring about effective change. The group meet every two months on a Saturday at local venues.
Various debates will take place, but there will be a particular interest in women and familities. Fund raising events will also be organised to contribute to Labour Party campaigns and Guest speakers will be asked to attend our meetings to provide their own perspective and update the group on current policy issues which are of particular interest to the Group.
The group has the full support of our local MP, Tom Blenkinsop, who recognises the importance of women’s contribution to local and national politics. Tom has also offered to raise any questions in the House of Commons on behalf of the Group on matters raised which are of particular interest.
Our first event will be held outside Sunnyfield House, Guisborough, on Saturday 16 June at 11am where we will be asking people to sign our petition against Coalition cuts to child tax credits and child benefits.
