Tea rooms set to serve community again
Have we got brews for you – Saltburn’s popular Valley Gardens’ tea rooms have recently re-opened to the public.
Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council set about seeking an operator for the venue earlier this year, prompting a wave of interest from people wanting to take it on.
And the timber-framed cafe, which dates back to the 1900s, fired the kettle up once more after proprietor Lorna Piper was granted the lease to run it.
The cafe will open at 9.30am Tuesdays to Sundays for a fortnight, to welcome new customers, before then operating seven days a week.
It is now hoped that as many people as possible will take the chance to visit with a host of tasty treats on the menu to mark the start of the new era.
Lorna said: “Catering is something I love and I’m really looking forward to working in Saltburn. We’ve met some amazing people already as we’ve been setting up and everyone has made us feel so welcome.”
Councillor Olwyn Peters, the Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Tourism, said: “I am delighted to see the tea rooms up and running once again – they have long been a popular attraction with residents and tourists in Saltburn.
“We wish Lorna and her team all the very best in their endeavours and are sure it will be a terrific success.”
