Building for the future in Moorsholm

Moorsholm residents Keith Harding, from Moorsholm Athletic and Cricket Club together with Chairman of Lockwood Parish Council Ian Solomon with a cheque for £50,000.

Moorsholm Athletic and Cricket Club was in danger of folding this year due to the dilapidated state of the old portacabin facility on the recreation field.
The club has been in existence since 1911 and currently plays in the Langbaurgh Cricket League. A public meeting was held last September to encourage support and ideas to save the club. This was followed by an A.G.M. when a new committee was formed.
Chairman of Lockwood Parish Council and Moorsholm resident, Ian Solomon told Coastal View: “I sit on the committee as child welfare officer and it was encouraging that a few parents attended and joined the committee.
“ It became clear that other sports could be offered if we had a suitable building, particularly for children and young people who have to travel to take part in organised activities.
“In January of this year I was made aware of funding from Sport England under their Inspired Facilities programme and I submitted an application at the end of March this year.
“The application was for £50,000 to enable us to construct a new sports building for the village. I am pleased to report that our bid has been successful and this award together with a significant contribution from the club will enable us to construct a new sports building for the village.”
Local MP, Tom Blenkinsop, said: “This is fantastic news not only for the club but also the community and it’s a great reward for all the hard work put in to secure the investment from Sport England. After a difficult year this money will go a long way to developing a new building that will prove a valuable resource for young people for years to come. Well done Ian and the rest of the team!”
Ian added: “I would like to thank Sport England Inspired Facilities Project for their award and support and I would also like to thank Redcar and Cleveland Sports Development Team for their assistance throughout the bid.”
