Dining on the Edge!

Three lucky diners from County Durham had their taste buds taken to the edge and back as they dined alfresco last Friday to celebrate the forthcoming launch of the new Lookout Brasserie at Hunley Hotel and Golf Club.
The resort, tucked away in 265 acres just along the coast from Saltburn, boasts one of the best views in North Yorkshire which lends itself perfectly to the Brasserie’s name – the Lookout.
Christine Lee, a teacher from Peterlee, invited her son and best friend to enjoy an exclusive lunch on a cliff, cooked at their table by Head Chef Lee Holland. As well as sampling the breath taking views from the cliff edge, Christine and her guests are the first to sample the soon-to-be launched Lookout menu; “It was amazing, I’ve never done anything like it before, a really fabulous experience. Everyone went out of their way to make sure we had a fantastic time, absolutely nothing was a bother, and it was really great.”
Christine has also won an overnight stay at the hotel and is looking forward to returning to sample more of the new menu.
The Brasserie will be run under the watchful eye of Head Chef Lee, who originally hails from Tamworth, Staffordshire. Having previously managed a team of talented chefs at the Barbican Kitchen in Plymouth, Lee honed his skills at the Hilton and De Vere Hotel Groups. He owes his expertise to a number of top chefs including Chris and James Tanner, and David Atkinson at the London Hilton.
Lee is keen to promote a comfortable, friendly and above all informal dining destination; “Our new menu includes everything from light bites to pasta dishes, from burgers to quality steaks. so the Lookout Brasserie is the place to come for a delicious, relaxed meal, or even just a slice of homemade cake and a cup of tea!”
Lee continues: “It’s not only the guests attending the launch night who are being treated. The Lookout Brasserie is also offering 50% off all food ordered between midday and 9pm on Monday 3rd – Wednesday 5th September inclusive. Demand is expected to be high so early booking is advisable.”
Lee has been building on his relationships with local suppliers, and he understands the importance of using as many local ingredients in his menu as possible: “Whether it’s a beautiful piece of fresh fish from Hodgsons, or a mouth-watering steak from Russell Hume, we support local businesses who provide us with quality produce. As well as a varied menu, we pride ourselves on creating affordable, excellent quality dishes.”
The new menu is set to launch on Monday 3rd September. Karen Green, Hotel Manager at Hunley looks forward to welcoming some of North Yorkshire’s most influential tourism and food guests to a launch party on Thursday 6th September: “We had a fantastic response to our “Lunch on a cliff” competition, and the resort is buzzing with news of the launch night. During the evening our VIPs will be treated to a mouth-watering tasting menu, which highlights all the very best of what our kitchen team will produce. Lee and his brigade have created a totally new look and feel for the menu, which we know the local region will love.”
Karen understands the importance of the resort’s local catchment area: “Our location just a stone’s throw from Saltburn-by-the-Sea means we have a fantastic opportunity to reach out to several different local communities. Our social media campaign, which has supported the launch of the Brasserie, has allowed us reach these communities and is helping us to drive awareness of the Lookout.”
Karen continues: “Whether it’s a casual meal with friends, a quick bite at lunchtime or an evening drink to make the most of the stunning views, we want to make sure we are accessible to everyone in the surrounding area.”
The Lookout at Hunley launches on Monday 3rd September and the Brasserie is offering 50% off all food for Monday 3rd, Tuesday 4th and Wednesday 5th September.
