Redcar & Cleveland Lib Dems opposing the Labour Council’s scheme to introduce on-street parking charges in Saltburn.

Liberal Democrats in Redcar & Cleveland are opposing the Labour Council’s scheme to introduce on-street parking charges in Saltburn.
Liberal Democrats believe charges will hit local businesses hard. The Labour Council’s scheme will threaten this thriving seaside town and its many small, independent shops. In addition, Saltburn already faces pressure with the forthcoming new ASDA store in Skelton. This is only 3 miles away and will offer free parking.
Councillor Glyn Nightingale, Lib Dem Group Leader, said: “The Council needs a coherent policy based on a wide-ranging review of car parking in the Borough. Before it enforces more charges we need to look at how the Council can ensure a reasonable income from car parking without discouraging visitors, town centre shopping and local business growth or neglecting environmental issues.
“Labour’s resistance to holding a review at the January Council meeting again reflects their unwillingness to listen to local residents and businesses.
“Redcar & Cleveland’s Labour council needs to listen properly to the people of Saltburn. Local people know better than anyone else how to secure its vibrant future.”
