For one evening only this summer, there’ll be a very different feel to Saltburn’s Station Square as it’s transformed into a lush green park complete with grass, trees and park benches. On Monday 8th July the people of Saltburn will be able to relax in the park and perhaps enjoy a mocktail or two with friends. The event is being organised by local Saltburn charity, the DoorWays Project, to celebrate its 15th birthday.
DoorWays, which is based in Saltburn Railway Buildings, supports local 13 to 25-year-olds who are experiencing social and emotional difficulties. The charity works with young people to develop the skills and confidence they need to face life’s challenges, secure employment and improve their future life chances.
And not only does the charity have a huge impact on the lives of the young people it supports; its work has a number of important benefits for the local community too. Manager of the DoorWays project, John Pearson, explains: “Through DoorWays many young people have learnt to cope with some serious challenges in their lives and can now look forward to a much brighter future. The knock-on effects of this locally have been reduced levels of youth unemployment, a reduction in anti-social behaviour and a drop in re-offending rates. The project really does benefit the whole of our local community.”
So what better way to celebrate 15 years of success than with an event that includes the whole community? Residents of Saltburn will be welcome to come along and enjoy a mocktail in the park, find out more about DoorWays and meet some of the young people the charity has supported. John continues: “We’re really proud of what we’ve achieved for the young people of Saltburn over the past 15 years and we want the local community to share in these achievements.”
The Station Square Park is popping up on 8th July from 6.30pm to 9.00pm, and all are welcome to come along and join in the birthday celebrations. Meanwhile, anyone who wants to find out more about DoorWays can visit www.door-ways.co.uk.
